New U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN Visits Jakarta
Jakarta, May 8 -- The new U.S.
Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Scot
Marciel visited Jakarta to meet with ASEAN Secretary General Surin
Pitsuwan. Ambassador Marciel and Secretary General Surin discussed
mutual projects between the United States and the ASEAN community
regarding regional integration, economic trade, and U.S. investment in
the region. They also discussed humanitarian relief efforts to aid the
people of Burma from a natural disaster caused by Cyclone Nargis.
Ambassador Marciel will provide overall leadership in the pursuit of the
interests of the United States in the rapidly changing countries of
Southeast Asia.
