ASEAN Youth Ambassadors Prepare to Visit the U.S.




Jakarta, June 5 –- U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires John A. Heffern (back row, center) met with eleven Indonesian ASEAN Youth Ambassadors before they departed on their three-week visit to the United States. The Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs selected 20 university-age students among 4510 potential candidates as ASEAN Youth Ambassadors to promote ASEAN Awareness and Indonesian culture to the rest of the world. The U.S. Embassy selected eleven students to participate in a U.S.-funded International Visitor Leadership Program. During their trip, the Youth Ambassadors will travel around the U.S. and examine the political and economic relationship the U.S. has with Indonesia and other ASEAN nations.
