The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta is seeking an individual for the position of Epidemiologist in the Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) influenza Division

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The incumbent is an experienced physician, licensed to practice medicine in Indonesia. He/She works with Indonesian counterparts on field studies and projects related to infectious disease surveillance and response in Indonesia. The incumbent will work with Indonesian counterparts receiving U.S. government grants on implementation and monitoring of cooperative agreements, grants, and protocols. Assists with the development and implementation of training programs as directed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

 

1.      Medical Doctor Degree with license to practice medicine in Indonesia is required.

 

2.      Four (4) to six (6) years of progressively responsible experience as a medical epidemiologist. Two years as a physician assisting in field epidemiology or research protocols. Experience in primarily care specialty is essential.

 

3.       Level IV (fluent) in speaking/reading/writing both in English and fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is required.

 

4.      Must have a broad perspective as well as a thorough knowledge of the epidemiology of infectious diseases and public health. Must have good working knowledge of field studies and infectious disease surveillance.

 

5.      Must be familiar with infectious disease surveillance and the clinical management of patients with influenza. Must be able to establish and run field studies detecting patients with influenza and other infectious diseases, providing general medical care, employing broad diagnostic and therapeutic skills.

 

6.      Must be able to work with Ministry of Health counterparts and medical care providers. Ability to establish a positive rapport with local and provincial physicians and health officials, including effectively communication the importance of surveillance and infectious disease research and addressing local health issues. Must have willingness to supervise and train a junior field physician and several field technicians. Must have ability to design and apply analytical uses of computer databases.
