NOTE:  ONLY APPOINTMENT ELIGIBLE FAMILY MEMBERS AS DEFINED BELOW OF U.S. GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ASSIGNED TO THE MISSION UNDER CHIEF OF MISSION AUTHORITY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.  AN AEFM DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RESIDING IN COUNTRY TO BE CONSIDERED.  THEY WOULD BE NORMALLY CONSIDERED WITHIN ONE MONTH TIME FRAME OF ENROUTE TO POST.

 

The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta is seeking an Appointment Eligible Family Member (AEFM) for employment in country for the position of ASEAN Secretariat Liaison in the Economic Section (ECON).

 

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

This AEFM is to be based in the Economic Section and reports to the Economic officer through the Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH) Officer and Deputy Economic Counselor.  Overall responsibility will include reporting on developments in Indonesia, advancing U.S. strategic goals, promoting cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat and managing other emerging regional issues, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

 

1.  Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Environmental Science, or related field is required.

 

2.  Minimum 5 years professional experience in economic or environment policy analysis and reporting is required.

 

3. Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required.

 

4.  Professional knowledge of international economic and/or environmental issues, including in the ASEAN region, required.  Familiarity with management or coordination of projects/programs required.

 

5.  Ability to analyze economic and environmental sector trends in a complex developing country required.  Ability to represent U.S. Government interests to government agencies and international organizations.

 

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

 

1.     Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.

2.     Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3.     Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.

4.     Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.

5.     The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a TS security clearance.
