Ralph L. Boyce , US Ambassador to Indonesia congratulates Prof. Dr. Ayzumardi Azra, UIN Rector at the opening of the American Corner UIN "Syarif Hidayatullah" Jakarta.

"We are here today to open an "American Corner" at the National Islamic University. This is an effort to make accurate, complete, and up-to-date information about the U.S available to Indonesian students and scholars. It is a cooperative effort between your university and our embassy. We have provided books, computers, copiers, and other equipment. UIN has provided space and staff."

Dubes AS Resmikan American Corner UIN

Jakarta, Berita UIN - Duta Besar Amerika Serikat untuk Indonesia Ralph L. Boyce secara resmi membuka American Corner atau Pusat Informasi Amerika yang berlokasi di Gedung Perpustakaan Utama, 18 Maret 2004. Peresmian ditandai dengan pengguntingan pita oleh Rektor UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra, dan pengoperasian pertama layanan informasi oleh Duta Besar Amerika Serikat (AS), Ralph L. Boyce.

Boyce menjelaskan, kehadiran American Corner di UIN merupakan sebuah upaya kerja sama dalam bentuk penyediaan layanan informasi tentang AS yang akurat, lengkap dan terkini bagi mahasiswa dan cendekiawan di Indonesia. “American Corner adalah sebuah tempat di mana para mahasiswa akan datang untuk mempelajari lebih banyak tentang Amerika dan sebaliknya rakyat Amerika belajar lebih banyak tentang Indonesia,” katanya.

Dalam kesempatan yang sama, Rektor UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra, mengatakan, kehadiran American Corner di UIN diharapkan akan memberi motivasi kepada seluruh sivitas akademika UIN untuk meningkatkan kualitas belajar dan penelitian. “American Corner merupakan sumber penting untuk menciptakan para sarjana dan intelektual Muslim agar berpandangan modern. Lebih dari itu, juga diharapkan akan membatu UIN menuju universitas riset,” ujarnya.

American Corner terselenggara atas kerja sama Public Affairs Section (PAS) Kedutaan Besar Amerika Serikat dengan UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta yang ditandatangani sejak 8 Januari 2004. Lembaga ini menyediakan berbagai fasilitas, antara lain ribuan koleksi buku, majalah, DVD, CD-ROM, kaset, dan 1.150 jurnal online dari Ebsco Host. Layanan ini dibuka untuk sivitas akademika UIN dan umum, mulai pukul 09.00 hingga 16.00.*
